A very fun event was held last week at the Boston Design Center. Called Pet-a-Porter, it was a doggie fashion show in honor of the late Billie Brenner to benefit the Animal Rescue league. Here's a little bit from her obituary:"Billie (Schoen) Brenner, a longtime Boston business owner, died of an infection Jan. 11 at her home in Back Bay. She was 82. Family and friends say she was a pioneering female entrepreneur who always saw the importance of being financially independent and having a strong work ethic. They remember her as someone who "did not lunch." Mrs. Brenner opened her first business, Bath & Closet Boutique, on Newbury Street in the 1960s. She sold products to key designers like Ben Cook, a renown Boston interior designer. Mrs. Brenner designed the bathroom in the first production of "This Old House" on WGBH. Mrs. Brenner recognized that bathrooms and kitchens were soon to become fashionable and important parts of the home. Back then, people bought their sinks through a plumber," Mrs. Brenner told the Globe in 1998. Thirty years ago, nobody thought of our business as being fashion-oriented."Mrs. Brenner never retired and instructed her family that her showroom at the Boston Design Center was only to be closed on the day of her funeral. She loved her family, friends and her dogs. We all love the dogs!
