Online Style Values

Contributed by George Evans

Until recently many stylish interiors have been furnished with a few carefully chosen 18th and 19th Century antiques, the emphasis being the well designed modern/ mid-century pieces. However, in today’s changing marketplace I’m now seeing people reconnecting with the past and favoring the traditional period antiques with fewer 20th century accents. Since the future may be uncertain the comfort and the quality of the past is offering a secure home environment.

The named designer and signed pieces such as Vladimir Kagan, Paul Evans, Karl Springer, Knoll will maintain and increase in value while generic modern or pieces that only look like the real thing are falling by the wayside, since it can be replaced so easily through any store catalog today.

When you are looking for something of value online, the website I co-founded - Bondandbowery.com - is a great place to start. Every Thursday new listings are vetted and posted. Such as 1970’s sleek Vladimir Kagan sofa offered by South Mod, of Mount Pleasant South Carolina

can be easily mixed in with a well proportioned (only 12” deep) Louis XVI style Tulip wood Armoire from Autrefois in Brookline MA.

It’s never been easier to find quality and well priced signature pieces to finish off your interiors.
